VIRTUAL·ATAG EVENT

Aviation adapting to a changing climate

ATAG is organising a webinar on climate adaptation and resilience in aviation. This is open to participants across the aviation industry.

Dates and timings

The event will be split over two days. Participants should join both sessions, which will be held on:

  • Monday 7 December 2026, 15:00-16:30 CET and
  • Tuesday 8 December 2026, 15:00-16:30 CET

Background

Aviation’s climate action has focused mainly on mitigation. Adaptation – how a changing climate affects operations and infrastructure – has had less attention, even though airports and airlines already deal with costly disruptions caused by flooding, heat, wildfires and turbulence. These impacts often cascade across the system: problems at one airport will affect airlines, handlers, connecting hubs and the wider workforce who keep the operation running.

National climate-risk reporting rules are tightening, and adaptation is also gaining prominence at ICAO and the UNFCCC. Airports have done practical work so far; awareness and activity still vary among airlines, manufacturers, ANSPs, lessors, handlers, insurers and regions.

About the webinar

This virtual event aims to broaden the discussion. Sessions will cover the regulatory landscape, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as ICAO and EUROCONTROL.

It will also look at insurance and investor expectations, approaches from airports, airlines, manufacturers and ANSPs, workforce implications, links with tourism and external infrastructure and lessons from the maritime and ports sector. It will conclude with a facilitated discussion on information gaps and where aviation should focus its future efforts.

How to participate

The webinar is for those working in the aviation industry only. Participation is free-of-charge but online registration is essential. If you would like to join, please email events@atag.org to receive the registration link.
