ATAG is organising a briefing (together with IETA) on "Managing aviation's CO2 impact: an introduction to carbon offsetting." This will take place in a virtual format on Thursday 1 June 2023.
Aviation is committed to decarbonising. The strategy for minimising its climate change impact and flying net zero by 2050 combines technological innovations, sustainable aviation fuel and operational improvements. Market-based measures, such as carbon offsetting, will also be necessary in the short and medium term.
The briefing will provide a high-level introduction to carbon offsetting and other “out-of-sector” measures. We shall explain carbon markets, carbon pricing and their relevance to aviation. We will also provide an opportunity for questions and answers.
The audience will be airlines, airports and air navigation service providers that have little or no experience of market-based measures and wish to incorporate these into their climate strategies.
The purpose to provide a basic understanding of the subject. The briefing is not intended for those who already have significant experience of carbon offsetting and other out-of-sector measures.
If you work for an airline, airport or air navigation service provider and would like additional information, please email events@atag.org.
