Since the last ATAG Member Briefing newsletter in March 2025, ATAG has organised three additional virtual Path to Net Zero briefings, for ATAG’s members and the wider aviation community. Highlights included:
- Briefing #19, focusing on: ICAO CAEP and the likely agenda on sustainability at the upcoming 42nd ICAO Assembly. A summary was provided on the technical recommendations of CAEP/13 and an overview of recent activities relating to non-CO2 and contrails. Peter Marton from GAMA provided a presentation on the EU perspective on the Clean Industrial Deal and the Omnibus package of measures. An update was also provided on the work of the UN Global Solidarity Levies Task Force.
- Briefing #20: an update was provided by PA Consulting on the work that they have been carrying out in partnership with ATAG to map commitments to SAF by airlines and supply-side initiatives, as well as how to scale up SAF production over time. IATA also presented the SAF Registry: a global solution for SAF accounting and reporting and CADO - the Civil Aviation Debarbonization Organization. CADO was established by IATA and is in charge of operating and managing the SAF registry. In addition, Haldane explained the IMO’s net zero framework.
- Briefing #21: Marie Caroline Laurent from MSC Group provided an update from the shipping sector on developments at the IMO and how maritime negotiations are progressing. Riina Jussila from the UN explained the preparations for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport, 2026-2035. In addition, IATA presented the upcoming IATA BRIEF publication, which compares CORSIA and the IMO net-zero framework; and we introduced our new ATAG Sustainability Communications Guidebook.
