Webinar recording: Greenhouse Gas Protocol and scope 3 for sustainable aviation fuel

In April 2025, ATAG hosted a webinar jointly with IATA and the Sustainable Markets Initiative to discuss the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG-P), which supplies the world’s most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standards and guidance. The purpose of the webinar was to discuss the current lack of guidance to aviation and other stakeholders on the use of SAF and related emissions that are defined as scope 3. Topics on the agenda included:

  • Situation challenge: accounting for scope 1 voluntary SAF use and scope 3 emissions from SAF corporate sales at present.
  • Solution: possibility of working with GHG-P on a solution, and interim measures.
  • Potential: how this would help unlock SAF scale-up.
  • Open discussion amongst industry on their views, challenges and insights.

More than 500 people registered for the discussion, from both within the aviation industry and outside. Speakers included representatives from ATAG, IATA, IAG, RTX / International Aerospace Environmental Group, Heathrow / ACI, the Sustainable Markets Initiative, Microsoft and Boeing / Jet Zero Council Australia.

The event recording is available below and the slide presentation is available here. These are for industry use only.
